Materials:
In kit:
Mirror face (has the astrological symbols on it in reverse order)
Mirror back (two pieces glued together with symbols on the back)
Xeroxes of the Moon gate (looks like a door), Lesser Nonagram, and Sea of the Moon.
The glass (black and rough on one side)
Purple felt
You will need:
White and black paint (Ceramicoat or other water based paint)
Small Square pointed paintbrush
Polyurethane spray paint (semi gloss)
Wood glue
In each section I will guide you through finishing your mirror, calling on various
items out of the list above.
Finishing the exterior of the mirror
Materials needed:
White paint
Small Square pointed paintbrush
Polyurethane spray paint
Within the lines on the back of the mirror making up the letters, fill them in carefully with the white paint. This is where the square front of the brush will help you. Make use of it.
When you come to the All Seeing Eye, use the edge of the brush to go over the lines, and fill in the whites of the eyes. Use multiple coats on the whites to insure they are clear.
If you want to erase something, you can remove it with a water-laden brush, or let it dry, then use black paint to cover the mistak and then go back and correct it. I find that if I finish, let it dry, then correct it with the black paint, it looks better.
When all paint is dry, spray paint a light coat of polyurethane over all the painted areas to protect the symbols and give it a finish. I use semi gloss to give it some luster without being too distracting.
Set these pieces aside to dry and begin finishing the glass.
Finishing the glass:
Materials needed:
Double sided tape
Purple felt (from kit)
Trim ½-inch wide strip of the purple felt. You will need about 6 inches of it. Take the double-sided tape and put three 2 inch strips around the painted side of the glass, equally spaced. Then cut the felt strip into three 2-inch pieces and apply it to the tape. This will support the glass away from the symbolic condenser, so the physical fluid condenser (the rough stuff held on by the paint) does not wear through the paint.
Finishing the symbolic Condenser:
|
Materials needed: The Xeroxes from the kit. A 10 inch square piece of good grade paper. First take out the Great Nonagram copy from the kit. It looks like the picture to the right. The copy was made at full size, so to start, place the copy on a table and lay your piece of paper on top. Trace the whole using a pen loaded with Dragons Blood or Moon ink, or just a purple pencil. Make the lines very thick, about ¼ inch. Allow it to dry. |
|
Cut out the nonagram carefully on the outside line and make sure it will fit in the mirror well it is meant for.
Take the symbolic container and place it nonagram down. Get the copy of the Seal of the Moon (shown below) and center it under the symbolic container with the moon sign (looks like a moon) opposite one of the nonagram points. Use a compass and carefully trace it onto the clean side of the container. The colors are as follows:

Let everything dry again. Continue on the next page.
Turn over the container. Make sure the moon sign of the Seal of the Moon is down and there is a point of the nonagram up. This means the symbolic condenser is aligned so far. We now need to apply the First Pentacle of the Moon to the front of the condenser.
| The coloring of this is straightforward, but has some interesting options, such as drawing the lines with Moon or Dragons Blood ink. I recommend that the lettering all be done in black ink. |
|
Cut the Pentacle out from its piece of paper and align it underneath the condenser so the “doorway” is up. The little cross on the lower right hand corner is another indicator. Trace it onto the condenser.
Final assembly of the mirror:
When all of the pieces of the mirror are dry, identify the letter Ceph (Z) on the back of the mirror on the outside band of letters (they mean “I am the Lord Your God”). This identifies the top point of the mirror. It may not be exact, but choose one close to it. Place the symbolic container into the mirror well meant for it.
Now you need three hairs plucked from your own body. Not cut, pulled with some pain involved. This is important. Place these hairs on the symbolic condenser. Place the mirror glass into the well.
Now comes an optional item. I like to use clear silicone to adhere the mirror the top piece of the mirror and seal it watertight. I rub a little onto the inner edge of the mirror also to make it watertight. This is so the mirror can be used as a water or oil mirror, if desired. If you do this, apply the silicone to the wood in a thin band, but a fairly healthy amount. You can clean it up later with a paper towel, or when dry, a razor blade.
Smear wood glue on the unpainted faces of the mirror in a thin coat. Find the astrological sign that is yours and place it nearest the top point you identified earlier. Apply the two pieces together and wipe away any excess glue. Put a large book on it and let it dry overnight.
Your mirror is ready for use.
