Chakra Cleansing and Balancing

By Rhiannon

This paper will discuss the Chakras and some of their involvement in our health and well being.

While modern medicine usually describes the body in scientific terms, doctors and scientists are beginning to realize there is more that controls the well being of the body than drugs, with suggestions of energy bracelets, massage, chiropractic treatments and alternative medical techniques such as Holistic Medicine, Reki and Pranic Healing and some Western medicine is acknowledging a need for alternative medicines.

In our every day life we are exposed to many different emotions. They can range from love, happiness, hate, illness, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, superiority over others, and anger to name a few. These emotions give off energies that our bodies may take on and can create an illness within ourselves. These can include childhood experiences we have not dealt with. These may cause for us to have illnesses when we are adults that cannot be explained or excused by modern medicine. In this case we need to look deeper within ourselves to find the cause of the illness. For example, holding on to anger because of something that a person did to you in the past may cause stomach ulcers.

These transferals may give us symptoms other then what the illness really is. They may make us feel fatigued, cranky, impatient, and headaches. In turn this can affect the nature of our relationships, work life, and every day life. This may also impede our spiritual life, causing us to devote more time to material pleasures.

One example is when a husband and wife are so close in their relationship they can transfer their illness or mental anxiety to the other, making the first person feel better but the one receiving the illness will feel sick for no reason. In this case the person becoming ill for no apparent reason needs to look deeper and try to find just what is causing the illness. This is not an easy thing to do on one’s own, but with the appropriate medical help, someone who understands about this form of energy transferal, it can be cleared up. If a person is able to logically establish on their own that a transferal of illness may be happening they can stop it. They may put up blocks to stop receiving the illness then they may transfer or give back the illness to the other person. Other ways of cleaning these transferals may include physical exercise, resting, or even something as great as a change in a belief system. If these do not help then one must seek a solution in other areas, looking deeper to see under the conditions.

One form is to cleans and balance the Chakras.

Depending on the source you are working with, there are 7 to 10 major Chakras in the body 21 smaller Chakras or meridians. I will be helping you to clean and balance the 7 major Chakras in this paper.

The 7 are:

  1. Root Chakra
  2. Sacral Chakra
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra
  4. Heart Chakra
  5. Throat Charka
  6. Brow Chakra
  7. Crown Chakra

For those who do Pranic or other types of healing, there are also two other very important Chakras in each hand which healers need to recognize, keep clean and balanced since most healing is done with the hands. You should look into the books or talk to people who do your type of healing for more information.

When visualizing a Chakra, it is most commonly "seen" as a lotus flower. The number of petals of the lotus flower for the Chakras is a suggestion and what some writers believe. I like to keep things simple, especially when first starting out, so I started with a simple 4-6 petals vision for the Chakras. As you become more comfortable with this vision you may wish to visualize the higher petal counts. You may also visualize the Chakras as spinning balls of color if that is easier for you. The number of petals reflects the complexity and strength of the Chakra. This visualization is only to give a starting point of reference. As you become more sensitive to the energies involved with these, you will feel and see them for what they are.

The first chakra is known as the Root Chakra. It is located at the bottom or base of the trunk of the body between the anus and genitals. It is associated with the adrenal glands, the spinal column, the urinary system including the kidneys, the energy of survival and growing to the physical plane. If using the lotus petal visualization it is divided into 4 petals. It is related to the element of Earth. Since this chakra is the center of the system it is responsible for the disposal of unwanted and impure energies, which may pollute the aura and other chakras.

The color envisioned with the Root Chakra is red. Stones most associated with it are Blood Stone, Smokey Quartz, Tiger’s Eye, and Hematite. It vibrates to a deep, low tone using the UH sound (as in cup).

Symptoms of the Root Chakra spinning too fast may be bullying, overly materialistic, and self-centered. Symptoms of the Root Chakra spinning too slowly may be, emotionally needy, low self-esteem, and fearfulness. If the Root Chakra is balanced and spinning properly, one will demonstrate self-mastery, physical energy and grounded-ness.

The second chakra is known as the Sacral Chakra. It is located about 2-3 inches below your naval. It is associated with the reproductive organs, endocrine glands, sexual energy, interpersonal relationships, and effects the emotional well being, and the life force.

The color used with this chakra is orange. It relates to the element of Water. Stones most associated with it are Citrine, Moonstone, Golden Topaz, and Rutilated Quartz. It vibrates to a higher pitch than the Root Chakra OO sound (as in you).

Symptoms of this chakra spinning too fast are, emotionally unbalanced, manipulative, and sexually addictive. Symptoms of it spinning too slowly are over sensitivity, feels guilty for no reason, and frigid or impotent. If it is balanced one will feel, expressive, creative, and trusting.

The third chakra is known as the Solar Plexus. It is located about an inch above the naval. It is associated to the pancreas, adrenal glands, lower gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, stomach, liver the digestive system, power energy, and self-mastery.

The color for this chakra is yellow. It relates to the element Fire. Stones associated with it are, Malachite, Yellow Citrine, and Calcite. It vibrates to a higher pitch than the Sacral Chakra using an O sound (as in no).

Symptoms if it is spinning too fast are, anger, controlling, workaholic, and feeling superior to others. If it is spinning too slow symptoms are insecurity, needing constant reassurance, and overly concerned with what other think of them. If it is balanced one will feel, uninhibited, spontaneous, and respect oneself and others.

The fourth chakra is the Heart Chakra. It is located in the center of the chest between the breasts. It works with the Thymus, the heart, circulatory system, lungs, heart, and emotional energy. Its actions are connected to the immune system also.

The color for this chakra is green. It relates to the element Air. The stones associated with it are Rose Quartz, Green Jade, Watermelon Tourmaline, and Green Calcite. It vibrates to the sound AH.

Symptoms of this Chakra spinning too fast are overly dramatic, possessive, withholds emotionally “to punish”, and loving conditionally. A symptom of this Chakra spinning too slowly is, self-pitying, fears rejection, and feels unworthy of love. With this chakra balanced, one would feel, nurturing, loves unconditionally, compassion.

The fifth Chakra is the Throat Chakra. It is located at the base of the neck over the larynx. It works with the Thyroid Gland, Parathyroid glands, respiratory system, the upper alimentary canal and communication.

The color for this chakra is blue. The lotus flower is divided into 16 petals. The stones most associated with it are, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, and Sodalite. It vibrates to the sound Eye (as in I).

Symptoms of this Chakra spinning too fast are, arrogant, self-righteous, dogmatic, and overly talkative. If it is spinning too slow symptoms may be holding inconsistent views, unreliable, and holding back self-expression. If balanced one finds it easy to meditate, to be a good communicator, and is contented.

The sixth chakra is the Third Eye Chakra. It is located in the middle of the forehead. It is associated with the Pituitary Glad, lower brain, ears, eyes, nervous system, clairvoyance, imagination, and the psychic abilities. The color used for this Chakra is Indigo. The lotus flower is divided into 96 petals.

The stones associated with this chakra are, Purple Fluorite, Azurite, and Amethyst. It vibrates to the sound Aye (as in May).

If this Chakra is spinning too fast the person may be arrogant, dogmatic, and authoritarian. If it is spinning too slow the person may have a tendency towards schizophrenia, be undisciplined, and fear success. When this chakra is balanced one is highly intuitive, may experience unusual phenomena, and will not be attached to material things.

The seventh chakra is the Crown Chakra. It is located at the top center of the head. It is associated with the Pineal Glad. It is also known to be associated with bringing energy into the body along with being the control center for the functioning of our physical, emotional, and mental selves. The color for this chakra is Purple. The lotus flower for this final chakra is divided into 972 petals.

The stones associated with it are, Herkimer Diamond, Diamond, and Clear Quartz. It vibrates to the sound Eeee (as in See).

If this Chakra is spinning too fast symptoms may be psychotic or manic depression, frustration, and a sense of unrealized power. If it is spinning too slow symptoms may be indecision, no sense of “belonging” and constantly tired. When balanced one is at peace with oneself, transcendent, and would posses a magnetic personality.

Cleansing the Chakras

Chakras build up “dirt”, for lack of a better term, just like your skin does. Cleansing the chakras removes this “dirt” that builds up and allows the energies to balance and spin properly. Since you will be using the stones to do this it would be best if you were in a laying down position. Make yourself comfortable and clear your mind of everything except for the work you are about to do. This may take a while, but push aside the daily grind and the worries that plague you.

We will start with the Root Chakra. Take one or as many of the stones you feel you need associated with the Root Chakra. Each stone has it’s own purpose for this cleaning, so experiment with each and all of the stones to find the best combination for your needs. Place the stone or stones on the area where the Root Chakra is located. Relax the mind and begin the visualization of the Root Chakra. Visualize the Chakra in the form of a closed, red lotus flower. Note that the Chakra is dirty it will have a dingy or grayish look covering the red color. Use the visualization to remove the dirt off the flower or chakra and going into the stone or stones. See the chakra clear up and brighten. You do not want it to be too bright, but this can be adjusted within the visualization.

Repeat this with each Chakra using the appropriate stone(s) and color for each one.

Balancing the Chakras

You may do this in a sitting or laying down position which ever is comfortable for you. Again, begin with the Root Chakra. Visualize the Root Chakra as a closed lotus flower in its red color. Begin to chant deep in your chest, the UH sound; visualize the flower starting to spin clockwise. Open the flower up slowly until it is fully opened all the time keeping it spinning. The spinning rotation should be about 1 revolution per second by the end of the exercise. Try to feel the energy flowing though the chakra and get to know that energy. Once you are done balancing the Chakra you should partially close it back down. Chakras take on energies from all around us. Leaving them open leaves us open to other’s illnesses.

Repeat this with each Chakra using the appropriate color for each.
